Several of these careers center on construction and construction-related career fields, and while they may sound similar in name, their functions vary greatly.
  
  

Pavements and Construction Equipment Apprentices

• Air Force Pavements and Construction Equipment Apprentices are trained in the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment, including steamrollers, forklifts and cranes. On military installations, Pavements and Construction Equipment Apprentices act as construction workers, building and maintaining the basic infrastructure of your military post. When deployed, these airmen are tasked with the quick construction of bases and assist in local rebuilding of their basic infrastructure.
  
  

Structural Apprentices

• A Structural Apprentice is, in every respect, the Air Force equivalent of a construction worker. The responsibilities of a Structural Apprentice include the construction and maintenance of buildings across both military installations and makeshift bases in combat zones. Structural Apprentices are trained in construction and maintenance of wood, concrete and masonry structures.
  
  

Utilities System Apprentices

• Utilities System Apprentices are, in essence, plumbers. Utilities System Apprentices are tasked with maintaining and operating water collection, supply and treatment facilities to ensure that they comply fully within EPA guidelines. Like plumbers, Utilities System Apprentices are tasked with ensuring all plumbing on military posts are clear of blockages, and work to repair clogged sinks and drains.
  
  

Electrical Systems Apprentices

• In the Air Force, electricians are officially referred to as Electrical Systems Apprentices. Though the title changes, the duties remain the same. Electrical Systems Apprentices are charged with the installation, operation and repair of the many electrical systems in the Air Force, including circuit boards and other equipment that will ultimately find its way onto aircraft. Electrical Systems Apprentices will also maintain the electrical systems that support the aircraft, such as airfield lighting systems and running electrical power lines through military posts.
