5 Reasons You Are Not Happy - And How to Change It

103 6
If you were to ask a group of people what their #1 goal in life is, I am sure most would say to be happy.
I know that's probably the first thing that would come to my mind.
I am sure there are people you know who are genuinely happy.
Perhaps you are one of those people.
I'm also sure you also deal with people who never seem to be happy, and even tend to make it a goal to bring others down with them to their sad level.
Then there is another group of people who want to be happy, but just can't seem to get there, or at least stay at a high level of happiness for very long.
Perhaps you are not at the level of happiness you want to be at, or happiness doesn't occur as consistently as you would like.
You're happy one day, then sad or angry for three.
What are you doing wrong? Here are some of the main possibilities: 1.
You are focusing on what's wrong - It's a life law that the more you focus on what you don't want, the more it tends to show up.
2.
You are not focused on the present - Instead you dwell on past mistakes or worry about future problems.
3.
You are not focused on you - When you spread yourself too thin trying to please everyone else, you tend to lose focus on who you really are.
4.
You don't have goals - Some of the greatest satisfaction in life comes from hitting a major goal or milestone.
If you have nothing to shoot for how can you hit? 5.
You are spending too much time with negative people - Sometimes you can't control who you spend your time with, but many times you can.
Are you spending your time with enough positive people? There may be other reasons that it is difficult to find happiness.
I find that these are the core reasons in my own life, and in many others that I have had this discussion with.
So what are the solutions? How do I add more consistent happiness to my life? I believe the answers are found within the problems: 1.
Focus on what it right with your life.
According to the same law mentioned above, the more you focus on what you DO WANT, the more it tends to show up.
Also, when you are grateful for the smaller things in life, bigger blessings tend to show up on a regular basis.
2.
Keep your mind focused on the present moment.
It is the only period of time where you have full control and maximum power.
Instead of dwelling on past mistakes, use them as learning experiences to help you take positive action now.
If you keep your mind focused on doing all you can now, it takes it away from what might go wrong in the future.
Avoid worrying about what hasn't even happened yet.
3.
Maximize your "me" time.
I am not saying to be selfish and forget about everyone else.
However, if you take some time each day, even if it's only a few minutes, you will feel more refreshed and fulfilled.
In addition, the more you love and appreciate yourself, the more love you have to give to others.
That can only be a win-win situation.
4.
Set goals.
Determine exactly what you want.
Then visualize the successful realization of it and live as if you already have it.
You will soon live it for real, thus bringing even more happiness into your life.
5.
As often as possible, spend time with positive people.
I understand it may be difficult to get away from negative people at home, at a job, or any other place where many negative people exist.
If you find it difficult to find positive people, listen to positive messages.
Find a sermon from Joel Osteen, or read a book by Wayne Dyer.
There are countless resources you can find to provide a daily dose of positivity.
I strongly recommend you take advantage of their availability.
Once again I will say these are the cores way to avoid and gain greater happiness.
I will say above all that happiness is a choice.
I have seen people whose lives are filled with blessings.
Yet they still complain and are not happy.
I have seen people who have virtually nothing, who not only live each day with a smile on their face, but go out of their way to make others happy as well.
If you want to be happy, you can simply choose to be, no matter what your circumstances are.
I certainly hope these ideas help you in your journey.
If you have any other ideas that you believe can add to the happiness of others, please comment.
I would greatly appreciate your ideas.
As you move ahead with your day, I remind you with the words of the old song...
"don't worry.
Be happy!
