How to Mash Food

Remove peel, if necessary. Bananas are very popular mashed up for baby food and are required to be mashed prior to adding them to recipes, like those for banana bread. Other soft fruits, like ripe pears and peaches, can also be mashed this way. - 2). Place fruit in plastic bag or on top of plastic wrap. Using the plastic bag will help to contain the mashed up fruit, which can prove to be messy. As an alternative, plastic wrap will allow for easier clean up.
- 3). Press down on the fruit with a fork or the back of a large spoon (while it is in the bag) until it is the consistency of mashed potatoes.

Peel carrots and remove both ends. For squash and zucchini, cut into slices. Peel potatoes, if you choose. - 2). Place vegetables in a pot of boiling water, to soften.
- 3). Boil for approximately 10 minutes and remove vegetables. Allow them to cool to room temperature.
- 4). Place in a blender and and press the puree button. Add water if the mashed vegetable(s) is too thick of a consistency.
