How to Enjoy a Long Airplane Flight

    • 1). Pack the following items to help you pass the time on a long-distance flight: iPod, hand-held game, magazine, audio book with headphones, laptop, paper and pencil, cards, perhaps a craft such as a knitting or crochet project. Be sure to download movies you may not have seen onto your iPod so that at least four and sometimes up to 40 hours of entertainment will be at your fingertips. Also, make certain all of your favorite songs are on your iPod as well.

    • 2). Choose an interactive game or a movie you downloaded onto your iPod to begin your trip. Energy is most high on the initial leg of a trip, and as such, concentration is always better. In between activities, be sure to get up and stretch your legs, as swelling of the ankles and legs can occur.

    • 3). Choose to play a game of solitaire on the fold-down tray from the seat in front of you. If you have made a new acquaintance with the person sitting next to you, you may want to play a card game designed for two. Also, if cards are not something you would like to do, you may want to draw, doodle or write a letter on the paper you have brought.

    • 4). Listen to your audio book or music toward the middle of your trip, as this is one of the most difficult times to pass. Many people fall asleep to the sound of another person's voice, albeit in book form or musical form. This may be a perfect opportunity for you to take a long nap.

    • 5). Read your magazine or look at your laptop to complete unfinished projects not requiring the Internet on the last leg of your trip. Of course if it is dark in the airplane cabin, this may or may not be difficult depending on the small overhead lighting. Also, many times airlines will show movies of their own. As such, depending on the time of the last leg of your trip, you may be able to view a recently released movie, or even play a trivia game that has been downloaded onto the airplane's sound system. In any event, the trip should have passed rather quickly in light of the variety of activities you have brought for yourself.
