Festive Christmas carol concerts in London's churches are an important part of Christmas celebrations around the city.
London undoubtedly happens to be the best place in the world to celebrate Christmas in traditional style. There is so much that you can look forward to indulge in apart from enjoying shopping, ice skating, German style mulled beer, music concerts, etc. Traditional Christmas festivities take place at several places in the city for many days.
London being a historic city has a wealth of age old churches and cathedrals that attract a huge domestic and international crowd especially during the Christmas season. Yuletide singing sessions take place in all the places of worship across the city with reputed choirs lending seasonal tunes to lead the crowds. Depending upon your choice, you can attend a free carol concert or a charity event.
At Trafalgar Square, for instance, free carol services will be taking place from 5th December - 22nd December 2011 from 5pm - 9pm. A spectrum of London based choirs and those from the Home Counties will be performing in one hour slots to immerse everyone in a traditional festive cheer. A series of Christmas carol events will be carried out at the square with more carol groups taking part in this year's celebrations than the last year. The glow of lights and a large Christmas tree at the square will add to the charm of traditional festivities.
If you wish to attend a carol concert that will be organized to aid charity then you can visit St Martin in the Fields by Trafalgar Square from 26th November 2011 €" 26th December 2011. This is where you can enjoy blissful Christmas carols by candlelight to enjoy a traditional seasonal treat. The major highlights of traditional celebrations at St Martin in the Fields this year will be renditions of Handel's Messiah, music of the London Concert Choir, Carols for Shoppers, Norwegian Christmas Concert and Bach Christmas Oratorio. Make sure to confirm the dates online to know which service is taking place on a particular date. The Crib Family Service will also take place and will include an amazing selection of carols and readings and then a precession to Trafalgar Square.
Westminster Abbey is one of the greatest historical attractions in London. Like every year, this year too traditional Christmas carol singing will be hosted at the Abbey from 29th November 2011 €" 25th December 2011. As performance time will vary, you must check it while booking a ticket. A number of musical services and carol concerts will be taking place at this historic church. The celebration will start with a rendition of Handel's Messiah with the Choir of Westminster Abbey and St. James's Baroque contributing to the rendition. On 13th December a Christmas Concert will be held in Westminster Abbey.
Last but not the least; traditional carols and yuletide music at the Royal Albert Hall will also add to the festive spirit in the city. A special performance by Lesley Garrett will be the major highlight here.
