Crossover Actors

102 12
Crossover actors have been coming from all different lines of entertainment for years. Every pop star thinks they can make it on the big screen and every tween with a Disney sitcom thinks they are a pop star. There is simply no stopping the madness when it comes to a professional in one area thinking they are a professional at well everything and anything. Most of the time the performances are painful to watch and are nothing more than cheesy plot devices and silly cameos, but once in a blue moon a crossover actor comes along who makes it onto the big screen, and stays there.

Arnold Schwarzenegger
The body lifting giant (figuratively and literally) has not wowed movie critics with his acting depth, although he somehow managed to wow voters to make him a Governor (so maybe hes a better actor than I give him credit, but Schwarzenegger
made a household name for himself after making successful movies time and time again. One of his first major breakthroughs, Terminator, hardly required him to even act or speak. He just walked around stiffly with a gun. Easy money in a tough business.

Terry Crews
Once again, this ex athlete shows that big muscles can equal big bucks for film. The NFL player made his jump to the movies after a seven season stint after being picked up in the eleventh round of the 1991 NFL draft. Not one to take himself too seriously, Crews seems to realize that his acting career is based almost solely upon his ginormous stature and muscles. Interestingly enough, he majored with a degree in Art, although I do not think the Old Spice directors were concerned with that when they had Terry Crews burst through a wall and make his abs talk.

William Shatner
Crossover acting is not a one way road, and many successful actors often end up trying their hand at tasks better left to the actual professionals of said medium. William Shatner played in his famous role as Captain Kirk of the Starship Enterprise on the famous science fiction show, Star Trek. Shatners acting skills have never been highly acclaimed, but the shows success had large coattails that he has been able to ride. His interest in music brought him much infamy when it was immediately obvious that he had virtually no talent. Shatner
was content to cover popular songs from his time and butcher them with spoken word renditions. Hey. Mister. Tambourine Man Play! A song! For me. Even though his singing may have been terrible, at least William Shatner has been able to see the humor at it and can poke fun at himself now.

While many celebrities are just fine with where they are at, an equal amount feel the need to show that they can master any talent. This rarely works out and most of the times it falls short, but as long as they get publicity and money crossover stars will continue to try and make it.
