The next time you're searching for some quality movies to rent, go ahead and give the films on this list a try.
While a number of these motion pictures came and went without drawing much attention, that doesn't mean they're not worth a look.
Actually, it's just the opposite, as these films offer everything from clever social satire to hard-rocking female empowerment.
The Joneses (2009) - Demi Moore and David Duchovny star as the heads of a family specifically created by corporate America to sell expensive items to willing suburbanites.
Joined by their fake children (Amber Heard and Ben Hollingsworth), the Joneses live a luxurious lifestyle that all their neighbors want to emulate.
But what happens when the strategy works too well, and one bankrupt neighbor takes his own life? Also starring Gary Cole, Lauren Hutton, and Glenne Headly.
MacGruber (2010) - MacGruber started as a series of short skits on Saturday Night Live, but its popularity soon led to a Super Bowl commercial and later a feature film.
Will Forte reprises his role as MacGruber, a flannel-wearing government agent who bears a striking resemblance to the lead on MacGyver (although he's far less competent).
Lured out of retirement by a chance to take down Dieter von Cunth (Val Kilmer), the man who killed his wife, MacGruber assembles a crack team (including Ryan Phillippe and Kristen Wiig) and demonstrates such unorthodox tactics as begging on his hands and knees, stripping naked except for a piece celery, and constantly fretting about the safety of his car stereo (it's a Blaupunkt, you see).
Kick-Ass (2010) - Based on the popular comic book series, Kick-Ass stars Aaron Johnson as a geeky high school student who dreams of doing something about the crime-riddled world he lives in.
Inspired by the characters in his comics, he decides to put on a costume and fight crime (despite having no superpowers to speak of).
While this doesn't go well at first, he soon makes the acquaintance of vigilante Big Daddy (Nicolas Cage) and his lethal 12-year-old daughter named Hit-Girl (Chloe Grace Moretz).
Things quickly get complicated when a hero named The Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) shows up on the scene, and a local mobster (Mark Strong) sets his sights on everyone wearing a mask.
Irreverent humor, tweens cursing up a storm, and plenty of graphic violence make Kick-Ass a superhero film that's definitely for adults.
The Runaways (2010) - Based on the memoir by the band's original lead singer, The Runaways depicts the real-life formation and rise of the all-female rock band that launched the careers of both Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart) and Lita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton).
Also starring Dakota Fanning, Stella Maeve, Michael Shannon, and Tatum O'Neal.
Our Family Wedding (2010) - When African-American Marcus (Lance Gross) and Mexican-American Lucia (America Ferrera) announce their engagement, their families must deal with the resulting culture shock.
A sweet romantic comedy that teaches some valuable lessons along the way.
Co-starring Forest Whitaker, Carlos Mencia, Shannyn Sossamon, and Charlie Murphy.
Triage (2009) - Colin Farrell stars as a photojournalist who comes home from covering the genocide in Kurdistan and must deal with the psychological aftermath.
Co-starring Paz Vega and Christopher Lee, the film is based on the novel of the same name by war correspondent Scott Anderson.
