How to Seal Carpets

104 19
    • 1). Vacuum the carpet thoroughly to remove as much dirt and debris as possible. If your carpet has been installed and walked upon, vacuum it a couple of times, as vacuum cleaners always leave behind some dirt.

    • 2). Shampoo the carpet with a trusted carpet shampoo to remove as many stains as you can. Allow the carpet to dry completely. Using a carpet shampoo that has a stain remover mixed in will increase the chances of a stain-free carpet.

    • 3). Spray a fine mist of the carpet sealer across the dry carpet with a hand-held sprayer. The carpet should be damp but not oversaturated. Brush over the carpet with a garage broom to work the carpet sealer down into the nap of the carpet. Allow the carpet to dry approximately two to four hours before allowing floor traffic.

    • 4). Apply a new coat of carpet sealer to your carpet after it has been shampooed five times. One gallon of carpet sealer typically covers about 300 square feet.
