Self-Esteem

• Teenage boys who are faced with verbal and physical bullying often experience self-esteem problems as a result. When an adolescent child is the victim of bullying on a regular basis, he may eventually begin to believe the negative things bullies say about him, or that he deserves the treatment he is receiving. Poor self-esteem can lead to many other more serious problems such as drug use and depression that can stay with a teenage boy long after the bullying has stopped.
  
  

Fear and Avoidance Behavior

• When a teenage boy is being bullied, a natural response is to avoid the person or people that are picking on him. This behavior is led by the fear of being verbally or physically abused and can lead to a teenage boy losing interest in his favorite extracurricular activities if there is a chance that he may run into a bully during the activity. This can become a serious problem if the bullies are involved in the same activities.
  
  

Academics

• When a teenage boy is the victim of bullying, his grades are likely to suffer. A bullied boy may try to skip classes that he shares with a bully, or in some cases, he will skip school entirely. Even when a bullied teenager continues to attend his classes, his focus and concentration may be geared toward when he will be teased or hurt next instead of the schoolwork given to him by his teachers, and his grades may drop as a result of his lack of focus.
  
  

Aggression and Violence

• Long-term victims of bullying face the risk of becoming aggressive themselves. This can be an extremely dangerous effect of bullying since in some cases, bullied teenage boys will lash out with extreme violence at their bullies and sometimes innocent people, according to a 2002 study by the U.S. Secret Service. School shootings are often instigated by teenage boys who have been pushed too far by bullies and have chosen to retaliate with hatred and violence toward the people who have tortured them, the study found.
