How to Write a Holiday Family Newsletter

    • 1). Organize your news. Most newsletters are written in chronological order. Finding material can be as easy as looking through your calendar if you choose this method. Another way to organize is by importance. Put the most important news at the beginning and continue in decreasing order of importance. With this method, you might start with a few lines about your husband's new job and your relocation to another state, followed by a paragraph about your married daughter's pregnancy and ending with plans for your garden. Whichever method you choose, try to stick with it throughout the newsletter.

    • 2). Write your newsletter in a conversational tone, keeping each piece of news brief. Use short words and sentences and paragraphs of only three or four sentences. Include only the most important and colorful news. Newsletters should be informative and fun to read.

    • 3). Add scanned images. These should be placed close to the paragraphs that describe them. If you can't place images close to their text, try to include captions so your readers know what's going on in the picture. Identifying all family members is helpful for those you haven't seen in a long time.

    • 4). Proofread your newsletter for content and grammar. Have another family member take a look at your newsletter, as well. He can check for spelling errors and make sure that the news you are including is something everyone is comfortable sharing outside the immediate household.

    • 5). Print your newsletter. Dress it up with borders or consider printing it on decorated stationery.
