How to Donate Cars in the Dallas-Fort Worth Area
- 1). Review the listed charities at Donation Online and Charitable Auto Resources (see Resources). Charities in the Dalls-Fort Worth area include East Dallas Community Schools, Doberman Rescue or North Texas and Dallas radio station KNON.
Choose a charity who will benefit from your donation. You can also choose a national charity such as the Jewish Enrichment Center or Pathways to College. - 2). Fill out the vehicle donation form. You will need to list your vehicle make and model, your Vehicle Identification Number, as well as the approximate mileage and condition of your car. You'll also need to provide your contact information.
- 3). Wait for someone from Donation Online or Charitable Auto Resources' towing company to call you about your donation. This may take one to two days. Schedule a tow for sometime when you'll be home.
- 4). Clean any personal belonging out of the car before the tow truck comes. Remove your license plates so you can return them to the local Department of Motor Vehicles.
- 5). Provide the tow truck operator with the keys to your car. He will tow the car away, and then it will be sold and the proceeds donated to charity. You will receive a letter from the charity with the selling price of your car. According to Donation Online, most people can claim a $500 deduction, though some may receive more.
