Traveling abroad broadens the mind.
There are thousands of wonderful locations to experience just waiting for you.
From beaches to jungles, to museums to fine dining, the list is endless.
When preparing for any trip abroad remember to visit a certified travel clinic for any recommended travel vaccinations.
The following are some travel trips to make your journey go as smoothly as possible.
Baggage Many airlines charge for extra bags, but carry-on luggage is still free (for now!).
Limit yourself to a twenty pound bag that will fit under the seat in front of yours on the plane.
The measurements of just such a bag should not exceed 9" x 22" x 14".
At first, traveling with such a small bag may be a shock to some, but almost everyone is thankful once they do.
If you are a traveler that wants the most from their experience (seeing many different sites) this is the smart move for you.
Travel Clinics If you are journeying abroad make sure to visit one of these facilities.
They are helpful in many ways.
First, you may need one of a number of travel vaccinations before you head off.
For travel to many countries travel vaccinations are recommended-but for many other countries receiving these vaccinations is the law.
In fact, many countries in Africa and/or Central and South America will not allow you entry unless you can provide them with proof that you have received the yellow fever vaccination.
Electronics Remember when traveling abroad that many countries have a completely different electrical system than the United States.
The first time you experience this it may surprise you.
American electronics run on 110 volts but most European countries are wired for 220 volts.
This means that an adaptor is required to plug in our American electronics.
Crime If you are robbed while on vacation do not panic.
First ask for help.
In English speaking countries this is the obvious first choice.
Always a file a police report, having one can expedite the replacement of credit cards and/or passports.
Utilize the internet and/or your hotel's staff to find the contact details of the nearest United States Embassy.
Safety It is of the utmost importance to do a bit of research before heading off on foot.
Every major cosmopolitan city (and many rural areas) have at least one hard-knock neighborhood.
Speak to hotel staff, restaurant workers, etc.
, to get the inside scoop.
Safety should be at the top of any list.
By receiving those travel vaccinations you have protected your health, it takes more research to protect your wallet!
