Dinosaur Birthday Party Theme Ideas
- Cut dinosaur footprints or bones out of construction paper to create simple invitations for your party. For a more creative invitation, cut a piece of card stock paper into an oval, and cut an oval of the same size out of a piece of white construction paper. Cut the white oval in half, making the edges jagged to look like a broken egg. Glue the top and bottom edges of the egg to the card stock so they can be opened. Draw or glue a picture of a dinosaur inside, along with the party information.
- Purchase dinosaur-themed cups, plates, napkins and balloons, or just buy items in green and brown. Cut dinosaur tracks out of construction paper, and hang them around the party area. Put some of the tracks outside to lead guests to the party. For a dinosaur-themed centerpiece, use eggs to make a nest full of dinosaur eggs. You can use a basket, box or the bottom of a brown paper bag for the nest. Wash chicken eggs, and blow the contents out to make dinosaur eggs for the nest. To do this, pierce the top and bottom of the egg shell with a needle, pierce the yolk, and gently blow in the top hole to empty the egg. Place the shells, some whole and some cracked, in the nest. Place small toy dinosaurs near the broken eggs.
- Use cookie cutters shaped like dinosaurs, bones or eggs to make food for the party. Cookies, sandwiches and cheese can all be cut to fit in with your dinosaur theme. Gummy dinosaur candy can also be served at a party for older children.
- Consider making a cake to look like an archeological dig. Use brown food coloring to make light brown frosting for your cake. Frost the entire cake, and put a thick layer of frosting on top. Use a spoon to make a few indentations in the frosting. Place small toy bones in the holes, or create bones with white frosting. Put toy shovels near the holes, and create dinosaur tracks in the frosting using the foot of a clean toy dinosaur.
- For a fun dinosaur-themed game, have a fossil dig in a sandbox. Bury small toys in the sand, and let the kids find them by digging with toy shovels. Play a dinosaur trivia game by asking children questions about dinosaurs and giving prizes to those answering correctly. Visit the U.S. Geological Survey website for dinosaur facts that you can use to create your game.
