How to Remove Mold From Antique Wood Furniture
- 1). Brush the wood with a soft bristle scrub brush to remove any loose mold.
- 2). Create a solution of lukewarm water and liquid dish soap. Use 2 teaspoons dish soap for every 2 cups water.
- 3). Dampen a rag with the solution. Wring out the rag so it is only slightly moist, not dripping. This prevents the wood from becoming over-saturated with water.
- 4). Wipe away the mold with the rag. Use light to medium pressure, and work in circular motions.
- 5). Dry the wood with a dry rag.
- 6). Observe the furniture to see if the mold persists. If so, create a solution of denatured alcohol and water. Use 1 cup denatured alcohol mixed with 1 cup water.
- 7). Dampen a clean rag slightly with the solution.
- 8). Wipe off the mold with the rag. Use light to medium pressure, and work in circular motions.
- 9). Wipe away residual denatured alcohol with a rag moistened slightly with water, and dry the furniture with a dry rag.
- 10
Spray the furniture with a light mist of spray fungicide to annihilate any remaining spores. Allow the fungicide to air dry. - 11
Buff the furniture with wood furniture wax to add a new, protective coating.
