How to Drill Into Drywall

104 6
    • 1). Use a tape measure to locate the area where the hole is being drilled. Measure from each edge of the wall or ceiling to the location needed for the hole. Measure two or three times to avoid drilling unnecessary holes. Mark the location with a pencil.

    • 2). Install a standard drill bit into the chuck at the end of the drill. Some drills have a chuck that is loosened and tightened with a key and some are operated by hand. Whichever style you have, ensure that the bit is tightly secured in the chuck. Use a drill bit that is the desired size you want to make the hole.

    • 3). Hold the trigger end of the drill in your dominant hand. Place your other hand under the front of the drill, just behind the chuck, to keep it steady.

    • 4). Position the drill over the mark at a 90-degree angle to the wall and pull the trigger. Guide the bit into the wall. Do not force the bit but let the drill do the work. Once the hole is at the desired depth, back the drill bit out of the hole while it is still turning so it comes out of the hole cleanly.
