How to Make An iPod Halloween Costume

    • 1). Make a cardboard box to resemble the shape of an iPod. Measure from the top of your head to a few inches above your knees. Cut two matching pieces of cardboard (the front and back of the iPod) this height and just wide enough to cover your front, leaving a few inches on either side.

    • 2). Measure how wide the sides of the iPod need to be to fit you comfortably. Cut two narrow side pieces this width and the height of the front and back pieces. Cut another narrow piece the same width to fit at the top of the Ipod.

    • 3). Lay the back piece between the two side pieces. Carefully line up the edges, leave a ½-inch space between the pieces, and place a row of duct tape along the seam. Repeat for each seam. Flip the entire piece of cardboard over and duct tape the back seams as well.

    • 4). Cut an LCD window screen in the front piece of cardboard. Position the window approximately five inches from the top and three or four inches from each side. Make the window large enough to look in scale for the size Ipod costume you are making. Use a blade or scissors to remove the cardboard from the LCD window. Cover the window with clear cellophane. Duct tape the cellophane to the back of the cardboard piece. Pull the cellophane tight to avoid wrinkles.

    • 5). Lay the front piece next to the larger piece of taped cardboard. Leave ½ inch of space between the pieces and duct tape the seam. Flip over and duct tape the other seam.

    • 6). Stand the large piece of taped cardboard up. Fold the seams back and around to form a box. Be sure the side of the front piece showing the duct tape around the cellophane is folded to the inside of the box. Duct tape the final seam where the edges meet. You should now have a four-sided box large enough for you to stand in.

    • 7). Attach the top piece by duct taping around all four corners at the top of the box. If possible duct tape the inside seams as well.

    • 8). Paint the entire box, except for the cellophane window, the color you want your iPod to be. White and black are the classic Ipod colors. Use two coats to cover the duct tape well.

    • 9). Decide how large the navigation wheel should be below the LCD window. Cut a piece of string to half the diameter of the size wheel you want. Tie one end to a pen or marker. Fasten the other to the center of the box, or where you want the center of your navigation wheel to be. Use the marker on the string to make a perfect circle all the way around the brad. You may shorten the string to make the smaller inner wheel as well.

Cut silver foil and glue it in the navigation wheel. Paint a play/pause button (a sideways triangle next to two vertical lines) on the bottom of the wheel. Paint the forward and back buttons on either side (two sideways triangles facing a straight line). At the top of the wheel paint the word “Menu.”

Over the cellophane window, place stickers to read names of songs and artists. You may mimic any screen of the Ipod system using black lettered stickers.

Paint the dish scrubbers silver with handles to match your Ipod color. If necessary paint the cord to match the base color too. Glue long pieces of cord to each of the dish scrubber handles. Glue the other ends together to the top, right side of the Ipod. These are the headphones plugged into the side of the Ipod.

Pull the Ipod costume over your head so you face out the cellophane window. You should be able to see around the black letter stickers to greet friends and walk around. Let the headphones hang free around your shoulders.
