Engine

• All LT500 models featured a kick-start engine with a total piston displacement of 499.5 cc, final drive and a five-speed, manual clutch transmission. The 1987 model had different transmission gear ratios than the later models. The "H'," "J" and "K" models all used the 43B10 carburetor, but the "L" model had a 43B20 carburetor with improved overflow tubes. The engine on the 1987 model featured a larger intake compared to other year models, with six head studs instead of seven studs as in other models.
  
  

Chassis

• In 1989, the "K" model received some chassis refinements. These changes are identified by white-colored A-arm suspension, unlike the pearl-metallic, round-tubing A-arms on previous models.
  
  

Design and Graphics

• The most obvious differences in Suzuki LT500 models were in graphics. Although blue and yellow dominated in all of LT500 models, designs and graphics of "SUZUKI," "QuadRacer" and "500" were changed every year, giving a new look to front fenders, rear fenders and seats.
