Security Guard Code of Ethics
- Ethics are essential in the security guard application process and prerequisites exist that will deny those of questionable character, and may include: felony convictions, arrest for violent crimes and crimes of an immoral nature. An extensive background check with fingerprinting is also performed.
- High-profile positions within the security industry demand ethical job performance. Security personnel work in armored car positions, prisoner transport, personal protection and high-security industries. Individual companies employing guards in these areas may have standards that exceed those required by the state; those who hire guards concealed weapons permits have even higher standards.
- Many firms employing security guards follow an ethics code created by the Task Force on Private Security sponsored by the National Advisory Committee on Criminal Justice and Standards and Goals. This 1976 code covers 10 areas of ethical importance in the performance of security duties, including honesty, responsibilities, cooperation and professionalism.
