How to Place a Duck Decoy
- 1). Scout the area you will be hunting before setting out decoys. The more knowledge you have of the region, the better equipped you will be to select an area where ducks congregate. Speaking with other hunters or employees of hunting shops is a great way to scout.
- 2). Place a mix of diving- and puddle-duck decoys within shotgun range.
- 3). Arrange the decoys in an open circle, creating a landing area for the ducks.
- 4). Place a chain of diving ducks farther out in the water --- beyond shotgun range --- to catch the attention of ducks that may have missed the landing area.
