Soccer Games

O.k the difficult part is done. You've obtained the skills, you are ready to go and hit the field and start playing but you have forgot the most important point. Soccer is a game. So that means it is meant to be fun. By now you are more then likely sick and tired of practicing and exercising, going through drill after drill and then not being able to do anything that you really like through it all. You will be pleased to hear that is all about to change. Why should your routine of practicing be totally boring? You will in time begin to hate your practice time, making you not like soccer before you even begin. There are a few ways to practice your soccer abilities and get fit while at the same time having a really good time. We will let you know a few or these weird (and not so weird) methods and then you can let your teammates know about them. There is no doubt you will never think of soccer in the same way ever again!

1) Chicken soccer. Yes you read it correctly. This was a game that counselors brought to a summer camp in West Virginia more then ten years ago that has not been forgot. What's the way to play it? First you are going to have to get together your supplies. This game needs a tarp of some sort, a thawed frozen whole chicken, water and dish soap. You need to mix the soap and water together then pour over the tarp (which will be acting as your field) and put your chicken into action! The first team to get 5 goals wins!

2) Totally horrified by the chicken idea? Maybe you would consider a game of flag football at the beach? This will give you a nice break from your typical soccer routine while at the same time giving your teammates the opportunity to practice playing together as a team while enjoying a good time- and due to the point playing in the sand needs your muscles to work more intensely then they ever would on a grassy field makes it even better!

3)Balloon/Beach Ball Soccer. Yes it's just as it sounds. Get on the field using a balloon or a beach ball instead of the usual ball; it will be a surprise to you how much harder the game is when you have not got any weight to work with. Want to make it a bit more interesting? Add a small amount of water to the balloons not so much that they will break the first time the balloon is touched but enough to make sure that at some point someone is going to get water on them. This will keep the game interesting as long as you want! (Although to be safe it would probably be a better idea to play in regular tennis shoes instead of cleats; beach balls and balloons do not last nearly as long as there regulation counterparts!)

4) Get rid of the shoes. Have a go at playing soccer with barefeet ( make sure you check the ground for anything that could hurt your feet first ) it will be a surprise to you how much more you have to focus to control the ball without your cleats to aid you. O.k! You now have all you need to go out there and have some fun. Keep this in mind just because you are no longer in pre-season conditioning in no way means you can take it easy with your fitness regime; youre just going to have practices to replace some of your normal workout. Well done on the good work and have a wonderful season.
