How to Clean Ear Wax in Children
- 1). Wet the small washcloth with lukewarm water.
- 2). Gently clean behind your child's ear and around the outside of the ear by wiping any residue with the moistened cloth.
- 3). Carefully use the moistened cloth to remove any wax you see in the opening of the ear canal. Do not push the cloth into the ear canal, and if you cannot see any wax or residue, only wipe the outer ear.
- 1). Put a drop or two of mineral or baby oil in your child's ears.
- 2). Plug your child's ears with cotton overnight. This is a more gentle way to soften and remove wax, rather than using the more chemical, irritating, commercially sold drops, according to Drpaul.com.
- 3). Do this once or twice a week after you consult your pediatrician about this method.
- 1). Put a couple drops of hydrogen peroxide in your child's ears to soften the wax, according to Kidsgrowth.com.
- 2). Plug your child's ears with cotton overnight to absorb the excess fluid, or simply wipe the ear gently with a damp cloth.
- 3). Do this once a day after consulting your pediatrician.
