Salsa Dance History
- There is some contradiction regarding the history of salsa dance, even though most agree salsa dancing and salsa music mostly originates from Cuba. But there is some debate whether what we know as salsa today came from Puerto Rico or Cuba.
- Salsa dance steps were influenced by such Cuban dances as the Mambo, Rumba, Palo Monte and Comparsa. All styles of salsa dancing involve three steps in every four beat measure.
- Different salsa dance styles are often identified by body movements, turns, foot patterns and attitude. There is the New York and Puerto Rican style, and the Cuban style of salsa dance.
- Dance styling is the embellishment of basic dance moves. In salsa, styling is very common, and incorporates shines, leg and arm work, body movement, spins and body isolations.
