104 5

    Identification

    • Calla lily comes in a wide range of colors including cream, white, yellow, pink, lavender, apricot, peach and salmon. Calla blooms in mid- to late summer, producing waxy, trumpetlike flowers. The bloom is correctly termed the "spathe," according to Iowa State University Extension.

    Considerations

    • Calla lilies are true bulbs but have a scaly appearance, according to the University of Florida IFAS Extension. Look for large, firm bulbs without defects.

    Planting

    • Calla lilies need evenly moist soil and can tolerate wet soils without any problem. Enrich the soil with organic material before planting, and fertilize calla lilies regularly to promote blooms. Plant calla lily bulbs 3 to 4 inches deep and 12 to 18 inches apart.
