    • 1). Challenge the mind with brain teasers, crossword puzzles, brushing your teeth with your other hand, learning a foreign language, a musical instrument or a craft, volunteering, driving a new route to work, etc. Take time to try something new so your mind will be stimulated. The more you stretch your mind, the more it will grow.

    • 2). Eat well. Healthy foods keep the brain strong. Fruits, vegetables, lean protein and whole grains are key. Brain foods include oranges, broccoli, spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes, chicken and fish. Drinking plenty of water is key, too.

    • 3). Exercise regularly. Walking, biking, running, aerobics --- anything that gets the heart pumping will increase blood flood to the brain, thus helping to preserve and improve memory. According to MayoClinic, 30 minutes of physical activity a day is recommended. If there's not enough time in your day for that, even 10 minutes of brisk walking will help.

    • 4). Remember things in creative ways to help memory power. Mnemonics, for example, is a fun way to remember things. The most popular mnemonics are acronyms, which uses letters to help remember specific items. Memorizing lists or words to the tune of your favorite song is also beneficial.
