How to Fix a Hard Drive Failure for a Laptop
- 1). Turn off your laptop, unplug it from the power cord and remove the battery.
- 2). Turn the laptop over and locate the panel on the bottom or side of the laptop case that covers the hard drive. The hard drive is typically visualized as a cylinder symbol.
- 3). Use a screwdriver to remove the panel covering the hard drive. Gently extract the hard drive from the laptop, being careful not to bend or break any pins or other connectors.
- 4). Insert the replacement hard drive into the laptop and secure it in place. Re-attach the panel over the hard drive, insert the battery, plug the computer back in and turn it on. You have now fixed the hard drive failure in your laptop. Once you install an operating system on the computer, you will be able to use it again for your everyday tasks.
