    Growing Outdoors

    • 1). Plant Anagallis monelli starts in the spring after the last frost date. In zones 8 through 10, plant in spring or fall. Pick a spot that gets full sun and has good drainage.

    • 2). Dig out a small hole, slightly bigger than the pot, using a trowel or shovel. Gently grasp the base of the plant in one hand and squeeze the nursery pot in the other until it slides free.

    • 3). Holding the Anagallis monelli plant by the root ball, gently place it in the new hole. Position it so that the base of the stems and the soil line are even. Add soil around the roots and pat it down smooth.

    • 4). Water the area around the roots until the ground is thoroughly damp down as far as the depth of the planting hole. Keep the soil slightly damp during the growing season.

    Growing in Containers

    • 1). Fill a planting pot or hanging basket with potting soil. Select a pot or basket at least 2 inches larger than the nursery pot.

    • 2). Make a shallow hole in the center just large enough for the root ball. Slide the Anagallis monelli plant out of the nursery pot and set it in the hole with the base of the stems level with the soil line.

    • 3). Add more potting soil around the root ball and pat it down. Soak the pot until the potting soil is thoroughly and evenly damp. Place the pot or hanging basket in a sunny location.

    • 4). Water when the top of the soil dries out. Fertilize once a month using a 10-10-10 balanced fertilizer as directed on the package label. Bring the pots indoors before temperatures drop below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
