Around the holidays, amid the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, don't forget to get a little token for the people you may spend the most time with--your co-workers. You don't need to spend a lot of money, but find something thoughtful that they'll enjoy or find useful. Whether you know them well, or just as acquaintances, there are a few things that are appropriate gifts for co-workers. - The holidays are a time to indulge in some sweet treats. Give a co-worker some high-quality chocolates. This gift can be given to anyone, male or female. Small boxes are available so you can get a little something for everyone. There are so many varieties out there, you can get a co-worker a favorite treat. If you don't know a co-worker as well, he'll appreciate the sentiment and most likely love some tasty treats. If you have the time, another idea is to bake some sweets for your colleagues. Put together little cellophane baggies full of homemade cookies, fudge or candies that you made yourself. Tie the baggies with a pretty ribbon.
- Get your co-workers a scented candle set in a small glass jar or decorative tin. Give each person a different holiday scent--such as vanilla, cinnamon, pine, candy cane and sugar cookie. You can also give a collection of a variety of flavors. Environmentally friendly soy candles are also a popular choice. Colleagues will appreciate being able to put the candle on a desk to spruce up a work area or take it home for a delightful scent.
- Give your co-workers a bottle of wine to enjoy during the holiday season. To save money, buy a case of wine from a warehouse-type store. Give a bottle of chardonnay, pinot noir or champagne for celebrating the seasons. This gift might not work for all employees, as some may not be drinkers. However, if you know that a colleague enjoys wine, she will appreciate unwinding during a holiday break with a quality glass.
- Get gift certificates for co-workers for something you know interests them. For example, if a co-worker buys a coffee every morning, give a gift certificate for a local coffee house---put it in a coffee mug to add a little something extra. If a co-worker goes to a specific restaurant for lunch everyday, give a gift certificate for the establishment. Another idea is a gift certificate to a book store--give a bookmark to go with it. If you are close to a co-worker, spend a bit more money and give a gift certificate for a one-hour massage--this is particularly thoughtful if your colleague has a high-stress job.
