Similac's Alimentum, a hypoallergenic baby formula, may cause side effects in certain babies. The most common formula-related side effects, which are diarrhea and dehydration, are caused by the formula's proteins. Babies who are lactose intolerant may have to endure these side effects to gain proper nutrients to grow. - The most common side effect of Alimentum is diarrhea. Diarrhea is dangerous because it can lead to quick fluid loss. This side effect can be avoided sometimes by following the directions for mixing the formula properly.
- Unusual thirst (the baby is always thirsty), unusual fatigue and weakness are also listed (on the formula can) as possible side effects.
- The other side effects of this formula are related to milk allergies and milk intolerance. From the milk allergies, your baby can get hives or start to breathe incorrectly (wheezing). Signs of lactose intolerance are abdominal bloating, stomach cramps and vomiting.
