- 1). Obtain a passport. Prior to visiting foreign countries, you must possess a passport. Passports are issued by the government strictly for international travel. They are used to identify the name, birth, sex, nationality, citizenship and place of birth of an individual. Visit the U.S. Department of State's official website to apply for a U.S. passport.
- 2). Schedule a trip that visits multiple countries. Book a transatlantic cruise that has embarkations in several different countries to easily access several parts of the world. You could also go on a European and Asian bus or train tour that has several stops in different countries. Regardless of the mode of travel, book a vacation that will feature multiple stops in various different countries.
- 3). Research the countries that you plan on visiting prior to the trip. Although most tourist-friendly locations speak and understand English, it would be helpful to learn simple words from that country's language. Additionally, you should bring an translation book that will translate your words and phases to the foreign language and vice-versa. Research the country's typical climate conditions to prepare and pack appropriate clothing. Also learn about each country's cuisine preferences to learn what type of food you should expect to eat overseas.
- 4). Purchase the currency needed prior to your trip. In order to avoid high overseas credit card surcharges, long lines at the airport, and ATM fees, transfer the currency needed for your trip while at home.
