How I Avoided Adult Diapers and the Fate of Being a Smelly Old Man - Urinary Tract Infection Solved
This might be a little awkward--I've never written about anything so private before.
But this is an important topic, so here goes.
A Urinary Tract Infection In December, I had a developed a bad urinary tract infection with all of the usual symptoms, to include a quite a bit of pain.
I turned to my old friend, the Web, to see if I could find a natural solution.
Our local health care system does not have a good record of preventing infection so I wanted some other options before I turned to the medical profession.
Cranberry Juice Numerous medical studies convinced me a steady diet of cranberry juice might turn the table for me, it just might take a little longer than prescription drugs.
I monitored my progress, drank lots of liquids and drank a full glass of 100% cranberry juice twice a day.
The infection slowly decreased and the pain went away.
However, I was left with very strong smelling urine--to the degree that I was embarrassed to use public restrooms--and the continuation of overwhelming urges to go often.
I sometimes would get up ten times a night.
I also had some days in which I would rush to the restroom about every 15 minutes throughout the morning.
Through spring and into summer I kept thinking about this problem, looking for a cause that could be managed.
The ups and downs of allergies did not seem to make a difference.
When I kept away from sugar for a week or so I couldn't see a change.
The urine continued to be strong and very smelly.
The urgency seemed to be slightly related to stress but not totally due to stress.
Finally, I hit it--coffee! The Real Culprit I had slowly built up my coffee input to 9 to 10 cups a day.
I kind of didn't want to keep track but that seems about right.
When I cut my coffee intake to one small cup at breakfast and the same after dinner, the symptoms went away.
My urine has no or very little smell.
The urgency is no more than any other man of my age and reflects about what it was before December.
What a relief--in more ways than one! If you are facing similar symptoms, maybe your culprit is also something out of balance in your diet.
I found that coffee had become very toxic to me in such large daily doses.
I miss the comfort of a cup of coffee much like, I suspect, a smoker misses the feel, taste and ritual of smoking.
However, I do not miss the constant worry that I had become a smelly old man and might need to shop for adult diapers.
