An Everyday Man Moment

Bobby shared a milestone in his life, showing an everyday man side.
He said, "I woke up at 4 AM one night with a melody in my head and lyrics that were giving me comfort. I’d received some news that broke my spirit the previous week. Like I said, I’ve been at this rap thing for a lot of years. (Sixteen if you include homemade demo tapes made in the basement.) That’s a long time to hold on to a dream.

In the meantime, my twin brother had earned his PhD and MD. My little sister had become a project manager for a high end remodeling company. I’m extremely proud of them but self-pity had hit that week. Long story short, I had been asked to be an opening artist on a high-profile tour, but was removed from the roster at the eleventh hour. While I’d been promised such opportunities in the past, this one seemed etched in stone. I knew better, but I put all my eggs in that basket with the attitude that my dues had been paid, and it was time to cash out. Then it vanished and I was bitter. Yes, sulking is pathetic coming from a family man who is supposed to have his priorities in check, but I couldn’t shake it off. Then God gave me a song. I got up and my wife woke up and asked me where I was going.

"I’m going to write down a song," I said.

"Now?" she asked, “you’re going to write a song?”

“No,” I said, “It’s already written, I just have to write it down.”

Perspective. Christ lived his life up close and personal.

He lived out his ministry obediently and touched people who needed to be touched. He healed the sick, fed the poor and dined with outcasts. He gave people a clear picture of God’s love by getting His hands dirty. He accepted us as we are, and showed us all we can be. He led us by example. He died on our behalf."

"And this perspective guides you how?" I asked.

Bobby answered, "That’s the kind of man I aspire to be. My prayer, during this new season, is to shed my insecurities and blindly obey. Whatever path He leads me down, that’s the one. Hopefully it’s overgrown and rocky."
