How to Care for a Ficus Bonsai Plant
- 1). Water your bonsai if the soil becomes dry. Although bonsai plants should not be overwatered, they cannot go for long periods in dry soil. Test the soil by sticking a finger in it; the soil should feel moist or damp to the touch.
- 2). Water the bonsai by soaking it in its container for about 10 minutes. Drain all excess water from the planter.
- 3). Transplant your bonsai every year or every other year, depending on how fast it grows. Remove the bonsai from the pot, and cut the roots off so that they are around 3 inches long. The plant should sit flat in the new planter.
- 4). Place soil and rocks around the bonsai in the planter, and water it again once it is repotted.
