About Itzhak Perlman
- Perlman lost the ability to walk after contracting polio when he was 4, according to the Internet Movie Database. After taking up the violin, he toured with other children on the "Ed Sullivan Caravan of Stars," then emigrated to the United States on a scholarship in 1958.
- Perlman made his professional debut at Carnegie Hall in 1963. Since then he has performed in numerous countries across the world, winning many awards and honors, including 15 Grammy Awards, the Medal of Liberty and the National Medal of Arts.
- Perlman has also devoted himself to teaching young musicians. He leads the faculty at the Perlman Music Program for children, established a master class in violin at the Meadowbrooks Festival, USA, and participated in the London South Bank Summer Music Series.
