Paramount Pictures has found its Max Steel. Paramount scooped up the rights to the Mattel toy line this summer, likely hoping to have another Transformers-type film franchise in its stable. Now Variety reports Twilight's Jacob Black, Taylor Lautner, will play the lead character - Josh McGrath - in Max Steel.

Josh McGrath is described as an extreme sports athlete who was exposed to nanotechnological machines (what does that even mean?) and accidentally gets superpowers.

With the 30 pounds of muscle Lautner packed on to play Jacob in New Moon, he's got the body to pull off the part. Plus, Lautner has a martial arts background that could come in handy.

Lautner will next be seen in the ensemble romantic comedy Valentine's Day hitting theaters in - you guessed it - February 2010. Lautner also has the third Twilight movie, Eclipse, coming out on June 30, 2010.
