Effective Time Management - Forget About It!

How would you like to accomplish twice as much in a given day in half the time with very little effort? I'm going to share with you this really simple concept that when practiced consistently, can make a profound difference in your daily results.
So often, we hear people say things like, "I need to learn to better manage my time," or "If only I had more time in the day, I'd really be able to get more things done.
The reality is, time can't be managed.
We all get the same amount of time day after day, week after week, and year after year.
No one gets any more time than another.
So, you can spend your days trying to manage time if you'd like, but that my friend, would indeed be a waste of time.
So, what should you be doing, you ask? You should be managing your activities.
Professor Cyril Northcote Parkinson states this, "Work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.
" By understanding and adopting this simple law, you'll find that you can get twice as much done in half the time.
Let's take a moment to see how when applied correctly, this law can and will save cut your activity time in half.
For this example, we'll use a self-employed writer named Mary.
In a given day, Mary should check and respond to her email, converse with her booking agent, and write at least 10 pages of her new book.
Doesn't sound like a lot, but it takes Mary all day and half the night to do this and then she professes that there was just not enough time in the day.
Since Mary didn't manage her activities, they managed her.
She checked email randomly throughout the day, clicking on junk email and finding herself shopping online for hours.
When she talked to her booking agent, since there was no set time allowed, they talked randomly about family, current events, and whatever else was brought up, only to end the conversation with, "Let's confirm everything tomorrow.
" When Mary finally got around to writing, she realized that only after writing two pages, she needed to stop to prepare dinner.
Then, after dinner, it was the dishes, the kids, and now Mary is sleepy and needs more time to "get it all done.
" If Mary adopted the concept of Parkinson's Law, here is how her day would have gone.
She allotted 30 minutes 3 times a day to check email and have meal breaks; 8:00, 12:00, & 3:30.
She scheduled a one hour call with her booking agent from 8:30 - 9:30am.
From 9:30 - 12:00 & 12:30 - 3:30, Mary had over 5 hours to write 10 pages! Wow, can you see the power in this law! By 4pm, Mary was done for the day and could tackle her evening duties as a mother stress free.
So remember, you can't manage time only activities.
Plan your day the night before and prepare for an amazing transformation in your daily results.
