Engineering Scholarships for Minority Women
- The organization offers a variety of scholarships to women in all areas of engineering. Many of the programs require you have at least a 3.0 GPA, though some require a higher GPA. Several of the scholarships give preference to minority applicants include the $5,000 Baker Hughes Scholarship, the $2,000 Chevron Scholarship, the $1,000 Cummins Scholarship, the $5,000 Honeywell International Inc. Scholarship, the $1,000 IBM Corporation Scholarship, the $2,500 ITW Scholarship and the $2,500 Rockwell Automation Scholarship.
- A source of scholarship support for female engineering students, AWIS awards are worth $500 and $1,000. Open to both undergraduate and graduate students, you are not required to be an AWIS member and members do not receive preference. AWIS scholarships are available to but not limited to women of color. Although no scholarships will be awarded in 2011, applications for 2012 awards will be available by Oct. 15, 2011.
- African-American female engineering students, studying for a bachelor's or graduate degree, are eligible for the many scholarships administered by the group. Programs include the $5,000 Northrop Grumman Scholarship, $15,000 S.D. Bechtel Jr. Scholarship and the $2,000 Caterpillar Scholarship. Requirements vary by award and you may receive up to two NSBE scholarships per academic year.
- Women of American Indian, native Alaskan or native Hawaiian origin can seek scholarships through the society. The AISES offers the $10,000 AISES Google Scholarship for computer science and computer engineering majors and the $5,000-$10,000 AISES Intel Scholarship, among others. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA, be a member of AISES and attend school on a full-time basis to be eligible.
