Your resume is in great shape, skills and work experience are top notch and supporting details complete the package nicely.
So what is the problem then? Most experts agree that fine tuning a resume should be done at a minimum six month interval.
Why you ask? It seems most people forget about their resume until it is took late then scramble to put together an acceptable document that is really not their best effort.
Let's look at some things that need to be considered.
Are you still at the same job? Have you recently got a promotion or changed titles at work? Is your contact information up to date? What about your greatest accomplishments? Do you now have experience that you didn't before? Is the type of resume suited for the job? You see, there are a number of factors that need to be considered when updating a resume.
Usually these things are overlooked when dusting off the old paper and suddenly realizing it was from one or two years ago (i.
e.
when you began the current position).
By utilizing the six month rule, these things won't keep piling up into this massive project.
Instead, simply open up the electronic version, make some changes and then save it to a different name (just in case something is amiss).
Be sure that the updated information is what you need for the job.
Tweak the old resume by including some of the industry buzzwords as listed in the posting.
Also, in case you got the new cell phone, make sure that the number is accurate -- especially if this is your favorite point of contact.
There is nothing worse than getting selected for that interview, then not being able to being contact because of incorrect personal information.
Follow this simple rule and you will turn that dreaded resume experience into one a lot more enjoyable.
