How to Get Rid of Those White Worms in the Garbage Bins

    • 1). Remove any garbage to heavy-construction quality bags and seal. Take them to the dump or dumpster, or out to the curb for garbage pick up, which will hopefully be in the next day or two.

    • 2). Kill the remaining maggots. There are a few ways to do this. For example, you can pour boiling water on them, or spray them with a pesticide that contains permethrin. Other things may work as well, such as household cleaners and hairspray.

    • 3). Scoop away all the dead maggots into a sealable bag and dispose of them along with the trash. Or rinse them with your garden hose into a 5-gallon bucket and take it out to the woods or somewhere else far away to dump them out.

    • 4). Clean the garbage bin. Use a germ killing cleaner, or get out the bleach and mix 1 part bleach in 1 gallon of water. Scrub the bin clean with a rag or scrub brush and rinse the can out completely when finished.

    • 5). Throw your future trash in to the garbage bins in sealed or tied bags so that juices and foods do not spill out into the bottom of the garbage bin. Be sure the lid is secure at all times. Do not over-stuff your bin so the lid cannot close. Throw that extra trash into construction bags and tie it tight until trash day. Or, buy another garbage bin.
