Tips To Eliminate Silverfish In The Pantry

If you are having a silverfish problem in your pantry, you want them gone immediately as the concept of insects crawling around your food and in your food is disgusting. What are some tips you can do right now to help get rid of silverfish in your pantry and cupboards?

Clean out your pantry and cupboards. A dirty pantry with miscellaneous food particles is going to be a food source for silverfish and possibly ants and roaches as well. Take everything out of your pantry and do a thorough cleaning with hot soap and water making sure all the crumbs are completely gone. Since silverfish are small insects they don't need much food to survive.

Think of replacing wallpaper inside your cupboards. Some cupboards have sloppy wallpaper glue in them and sticky glues that hold down padding for your canned goods. These glues are high in starch and silverfish love these just like they love the binding in a book. So if you see excess glues you might consider removing what you can see or completely getting rid of the wallpapering all together.

Clean up any water in the area. Make sure nothing stored away is leaking and make sure that none of your kitchen pipes under the sink are leaking. Silverfish are most commonly found around sinks, toilets, and bathtubs because they need a water source to survive. Make sure these are in proper working condition without and standing water issues.

Completely seal up all your food packages. While many things might be considered sealed up enough consider that silverfish can be as small as half an inch long. It may be a good idea to take opened packages and storing them in plastic containers as well that have a proper seal so that the pests can't get in.

If you follow these suggestions, it will cut down on your silverfish problems quite a bit.
