    Identification

    • According to the U.S. Forest Service, star flowers are rhizomes that bloom in small white flowers, no more than 1/2 inch in diameter. They are quite common in both coniferous and deciduous forests.

    Geography

    • Star flowers grow best in shady woods with moist soil. However, the star flower can also grow in drier regions. In the summer, the plant goes dormant.

    Significance

    • According to the U.S. Forest Service, the flower's genus is Trientalis. In Latin, this means "one third of a foot," which is about how tall the star flower gets to be.
