When you consider that it is possible to pay as much as $750 a night to stay in a Hong Kong hotel, it is no wonder that many western tourists would rather opt for a cheaper hotel. There are plenty of cheap hotels both on Hong Kong island itself, in Kowloon and on some of the smaller islands. Staying on one of the smaller islands may be a problem if you want to spend time shopping, but it is an ideal place to stay if you want to relax on a beach away from the crowds. - The South Pacific Hotel is very well located for those traveling to Hong Kong to attend conventions, exhibitions or just to do a little shopping. The 28-story hotel is located in Wanchai where the business district meets with Causeway Bay, a good area for shopping, entertainment and dining. Room prices at the South Pacific start at about $75 as quoted in early 2011. The rooms are all well appointed with both satellite and cable television and there is broadband Internet. Rooms are all air-conditioned with a bathroom, safe and a mini-bar. You'll also find two restaurants, a gym and a beach.
- Hong Kong's 31-story Ibis Hotel is located in North Point, which is about two miles to the east of the central business district. Room prices start at about $60 for a night as of 2011. The hotel's 275 rooms are said to be spacious and include a bathroom. Some of the rooms overlook Victoria Harbor. There is a restaurant on the premises, and in the guest rooms you'll find tea and coffee making facilities and a small television. There is an "All You Can Eat" breakfast buffet served from 6.30 a.m. until 10 a.m.
- If you don't mind being a little ways from Hong Kong itself, then the Silvermine Hotel on Lantau Island is an excellent choice. The island is an hour by ferry from Hong Kong , or you can travel by road using the new Ching Ma Bridge, built to link Hong Kong's new international airport with the mainland. The 128 guestrooms at Silvermine start at a little under $50, and for that you'll get a mini-bar, satellite television, a hair dryer, air-conditioning and broadband Internet access. The hotel has its own Silvermine Beach Restaurant, a lounge and a terrace and you can make use of a fitness center, tennis court, sauna, jakuzzi and a gym.
