How to Find the Name of the Hospital After an Accident

    • 1). Remain calm. The worst thing you can do during an emergency is turn frantic and become unable to carry on a calm and civilized conversation with hospital personnel. Keeping your composure will result in your finding the correct hospital more quickly.

    • 2). Call the largest hospitals first. In a serious accident, bigger medical facilities generally accept the majority of patients. Ask for the nursing supervisor and make sure to give the full name and age of the person you are searching for.

    • 3). Contact police. Call the non-emergency line of your local police agency to inquire about which hospital your friend or relative may have been taken to. Police departments can often contact dispatch centers and find out where patients were transported by ambulance.

    • 4). Call your local American Red Cross office or Salvation Army. After large-scale catastrophes such as fires or natural disasters, rescue agencies such as the Red Cross often have information about where victims or causalities were taken. For a list of area offices near you, see the link in the Resources section.

    • 5). Contact local media, such as newspapers. In some cases a reporter may have been at the scene of the incident. Media agencies can generally tell you which hospital victims were taken to or can pass along your contact information to the correct responding authorities.
