The capital of Wales, Cardiff, means "fort on the Taff" and its magnificent castle is one of the very best attractions in the city.
The third Marquess of Bute used his vast coal mining wealth to fund the castles wonderful gothic interior.
There is also a Norman Keep and well as some remaining sections of the original Roman fortress wall.
The castle also houses a museum, which offers a fascinating glimpse into military history, while during the summer there are special events such as jousting tournaments and Shakespearian performances.
The castle is surrounded by Bute Park, which is said to be the richest urban park in term of trees anywhere in the world.
The cities bay area is a necessary visit for any fans of the BBC series Doctor Who and Torchwood.
Fans of the Doctor Who spin off show Torchwood can have fun spotting all the landmarks in the bay area that feature in the TV show such as the Millennium Centre, Roald Dahl Plass and the National Assembly Building.
The millennium Centre is Cardiff's premier arts venue with theatre productions, concerts and performances by the Welsh National Opera.
Culture buffs should defiantly make time during their stay to see some of the fantastic performances that take place here throughout the year.
Art fans should also pay a visit to the National Museum.
Thanks to two wealthy sisters, Gwendoline and Margaret Davies, who bequeathed their art collection to the gallery allowing the National Museum to house one of the finest collections of impressionist paintings outside of Paris.
For the shopaholics amongst you Cardiff will not disappoint.
Take a walk under the cover of the Victorian shopping arcades of castle Arcade, St Mary Street, Royal Arcade and the Hayes, where you can shop till your drop what ever the weather.
For fans of the high street chains head to the Queen Street and St Mary Street shopping centres who feature all the very best from the high street.
After a day full of sight seeing and shopping, it's about time you stopped to have a drink and a bite to eat.
Cardiff is full of great pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants and cafes to round a fun filled day in Wales's capital.
One destination you should take a look at is the Old Brewery Quarter.
The old Brains Brewery has totally been transformed and is now home too a plaza offering tapas, Indian and Thai cuisine as well as a Hard Rock café and the Yard pub which offers Brains Beer.
