How to Remove Yellow Jackets Under Siding

    • 1). Watch the general area of the nest outside the home during the day to pinpoint the entrance to the nest. Remember the location of this area when you go back at night to remove the wasps.

    • 2). Place the insecticidal dust inside the dust puffer. If you don't have access to a dust puffer, place the insecticidal dust inside a cleaned out, dry plastic bottle with small rocks in the bottom. Cover the top of the bottle and shake it before use to prevent caking.

    • 3). Cover your flashlight with red acetate film and shine the red light on the entrance to the nest at night. The red light will not disturb the wasps inside. If you don't have red acetate film or cannot find it, use the flashlight but do not shine it directly on or in the opening of the nest.

    • 4). Puff the dust into the entrance of the nest with either the dust puffer or by gently squeezing the plastic bottle to create puffs of dust. Insecticidal dust is more efficient than liquids or aerosols because it travels further into the nest. Wasps entering the nest carry the dust back to the colony.

    • 5). Watch the entrance to the nest the days or weeks following the application of the insecticide; pry back the siding once you are sure all members of the colony are dead. Have a can of wasp and hornet killer available in case a few members are still alive. You will only need to pry back an area that will allow you to sweep out the nest.

    • 6). Using a long wand on your vacuum, sweep out the contents of the remaining nest to avoid infestations of carpet beetles and other pests.

    • 7). Seal any holes in your siding to prevent yellow jacket queens from using the same area or another area in your siding to be the site of their nest next year.
