How to Add a Sound Card to a PC With Integrated Audio
- 1). Turn off the power on the computer. Use the screwdriver to remove the case cover on the computer. The screws for the case cover are normally on the back of the computer.
- 2). Remove the case on the computer and search for the PCI slots that match the size of the sound card. The PCI slots are white connections on the motherboard located next to the back of the computer.
- 3). Slip the sound card into the PCI slot on the computer. Ensure it's tightly fitted into the slot. Use the screwdriver to insert the screw that connects the case to the sound card. This is extra protection, so that the sound card does not accidentally come out of the connection on the motherboard.
- 4). Use the screwdriver again to close the case and return the screws. Once you've closed the case, start the computer.
- 5). Log in to the Windows machine and wait for the operating system to detect the new device. When asked for drivers, insert the CD-ROM or DVD disk into the drive. Follow the prompts for the sound card's driver installation process to install the necessary drivers. The driver installation tool may ask you to reboot the machine after the drivers are installed.
