Independence Day 2013

103 2
Streaks of moonlight cascading off of your face Like a child out in the rain on a hot summer day You raise your face to the sky to bask in the illuminating rays of the moon.
With an outstretched hand you reach for mine Our fingers meeting one another's; they clasp around each other, giving security and warmth.
Why is it that when one is not looking for something It is that something that one finds When one isn't searching for anything at all One can still find everything one wasn't searching for.
Perhaps this is the reason for patriotism For those who had given their lives so that others can look search, and live.
To those who must mourn the fallen, perhaps it is better to rejoice And recollect better times, happier memories, and loving embraces.
My mind ponders all of these things as I am close to you I can feel the tension between us, like a string pulled taunt and ready to snap Though not a word is spoken on the matter We both know that our body language speaks volumes.
Just then the sky blazes bright with reds, blues and whites Thunderous echoes ring out and we can feel the concussions in our chests Or is that just our hearts beating for one another? You pull me close and our cheeks touch.
With both of us staring at the night sky set ablaze we stand in awe At the wondrous colors and sounds that surround us.
Nothing around us but water and the soft purring sound of the outboard motor As we take in the ocular festivities of the heavens and in each other We turn to face one another and are locked to each other's eyes Unable to break contact we slowly move inward towards one another Arms embracing one another and lips gently touching we steal a kiss Like the night stealing the heavens at night from the fleeing sun We are no longer aware of the surrounding chaos above.
We prefer to set our souls on fire and hope to rise to the cosmos --bursting! Let our happiness trickle down on those that may be gazing in our direction We hope that we can start a wildfire in every lonely soul tonight We wish that this night would never end We hold on to it with all of our might and defy logic and naysaying.
The white in the sky is mine The red in the sky is yours The blue in the sky is ours The blue in the sky are us.
