In order to be able to function like an iron, the device needs to be held in a strictly vertical position.
This is hard to d, given the shape and the weight that the device holds when it is filled with water.
Another issue that people have reported about is that you can use the device very well for smaller items but not for larger items such as a tablecloth, as this is just too large and would need to hang somewhere for you to be able to use the perfectly vertical position on the steam cleaner.
All in all the device is well above average but the small details make it hard to use and hard to recommend to buy as these little details can drive you crazy if you are used to other devices or devices that are easier to use due to other shapes or forms and designs.
