Are you thinking about a career change? How about a change of scenery? The Phoenix, Arizona, metropolitan area has experienced incredible growth over the course of the last five years, which has led to many new opportunities. Phoenix has much to offer its residents in the way of careers and lifestyle.

While there are few areas of the nation that have not felt the sting of the shrinking US economy, the Valley of the Sun, as it is known, offers an incredible array of diversified career choices. With everything from large information technology employers to a busy tourism industry that requires a large volume of service professionals, Phoenix has it all.

The recent housing boom, although slowed by current economic trends, created thousands of construction and real estate jobs over the past few years. This included everyone from loan officers, realtors, appraisers, home builders, and specialty contractors. Nearby Scottsdale, Arizona, is home to a world renowned collection of destination resorts and entertainment venues. Numerous insurance and financial companies have settled in Arizona as well.

You know what they say about all work and no play though. In that regard, the Phoenix area is hard to beat when it comes to ways to spend your leisure time. For starters, Phoenix has a very mild and temperate climate for about two-thirds of the year. While it is true that no one likes a 115 degree day in the middle of August, the fantastic fall, winter, and spring more than make up for a little time spent indoors under the air conditioning. For this reason, many local residents take advantage of outdoor recreational options.

Hiking, camping, boating, biking, and other sports activities are available nearly every day in Arizona. As far as entertainment, Phoenix sees some of the largest concerts and events held in the nation arrive at its many arenas, stadiums, and other venues. Phoenix is proud to have major league sports franchises in basketball, football, baseball, and hockey. Scottsdale hosts an annual PGA golf tournament, and each March, many of the major league baseball teams seek refuge in Arizona for spring training.

Among the largest employers in Phoenix are Intel, Banner Health, Honeywell, and Raytheon, and the area has given rise to thousands of small businesses that provide exceptional employment opportunities as well. Self-employment is also a popular choice among Phoenicians. According to the Arizona State Corporation Commission, there were approximately 400,000 active companies in Arizona as of last year. Of those, an estimated 100,000 businesses were employers and nearly 300,000 were individual owner operator firms. The latter is made up of everything from independent real estate, insurance and cosmetology professionals, and entrepreneurs who are carving their own path to success.

Phoenix also hosts a diverse demographic that features retirees, young families, and everything in between. The varied communities are all serviced by a wide range of health care facilities, restaurants, dry cleaners, schools, movie theaters, and so on and so forth. In all, Phoenix is one of the premiere areas of the nation to work, live, and play.
