- 1). Decide what size pots and pans you'll need. Take careful note of the size of the burners on your cooktop when replacing current pots and pans or buying for the first time. Many ceramic cooktops have two large burners, which can accommodate large or small pots and then two smaller burners.
- 2). Choose pans with a flat bottom. Pans should have a flat bottom, so that heating is uniform as you are cooking. Purchasing a pan with a grooved bottom can create uneven heating and thus burn sections of food while undercooking others.
- 3). Make sure the bottom is smooth. The bottom of the pan should be smooth. If the bottom has become scratched or dented, the food will not cook properly. Also, you may scratch the surface of your glass cooktop. Replace any warped, dented or scratched pots promptly.
- 4). Choose cookware made from the right materials. There are some materials you will want to avoid cooking with on a ceramic cooking surface and others that are perfect to use. Never use glass on a ceramic cooktop surface as they may heat up too quickly and shatter. Glass pots cannot withstand very high heats and glass cooktops tend to heat up very quickly. Do not use copper materials. Copper also heats up quickly and may actually melt and destroy your cooktop surface by melting into the glass. Also avoid lightweight aluminum, ceramic or glazed products.
There are some materials that work quite well with a ceramic cooktop. If you stick with these, you are unlikely to experience any serious problems while using these pots. Stainless steel is a favorite with many glass surface users. Stainless steel heats evenly and is hardy, so will not warp or scratch as easily as some materials. That makes this type of cookware perfect for a glass top stove. Other types of cookware may be suitable if they are heavy enough to withstand the temperatures of the glass surface. If you are unsure, then read the specifications on the box or labels, which should clearly state whether the cookware is suitable for your ceramic glass cooktop.
