How to Remove Stench From Suit Coat Armpits

104 7
    • 1). Blot any excess perspiration from the suit coat with a rag or towel.

    • 2). Sprinkle the inside of the jacket with baking soda, which naturally absorbs odors. You can do this while you are still wearing the jacket or when you hang it up between uses. Fabric sprays labeled to absorb odors may also work, but spray only on the inside of the coat.

    • 3). Hang the jacket on a hanger in such a way that the armpits have good air flow between uses. Do not put a bag over the suit or hang it in a tight space.

    • 4). Treat the armpit area on the inside of the jacket with a stain remover if it is washable. Then, launder it as indicated on the care label. This should remove the stench completely. If it is not washable, drop it off to be dry-cleaned.

    • 5). Prevent future armpit odors. Carry deodorant with you to reapply as necessary. If you perspire more than average, use armpit sweat pads, available online, to absorb excess perspiration. The pads will also prevent perspiration stains. Consider changing your diet, if applicable. If you eat lots of garlic or cumin, for example, your perspiration likely smells worse than it would if you abstained.
